Dear BCE Families,
As your PTA, we are committed to keeping our community informed about developments that impact our students. We are writing to share details regarding a proposal currently under review by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) that may affect transportation and school feeder patterns for our IB Magnet families.
CMS has begun a comprehensive review of its magnet and school choice programs. These potential adjustments are part of a broader district goal to streamline "Program Choice" pathways. A formal vote on these recommendations is currently scheduled for May 26, 2026.
Proposed Feeder Pattern Adjustments
If approved, the changes would take effect starting in the 2027–2028 school year. For students enrolled in the IB Magnet program at BCE, the proposed secondary school pathway would shift as follows:
- Middle School: The current path to Randolph Middle School would transition to Quail Hollow Middle School.
- High School: Will remain Ballantyne Ridge High School.
Community Engagement and Feedback
The district is currently seeking community input on these proposals to ensure the final plan effectively addresses efficiency and equity across all zones. We encourage our IB Magnet families to review the district's materials and provide feedback to ensure your perspectives are included in the decision-making process.
- Review the Proposal: Please see the PowerPoint presentation for a detailed breakdown of the "Program Choice" model.
- Share Your Feedback: CMS has provided an official feedback form for families to share their thoughts before the May vote
- Attend An Information Session: The Board will hold multiple public meetings.
We will continue to share updates from the Board of Education as they become available. Thank you for staying engaged with our school community.
Sincerely,
Your BCE PTA Board
P.S. How do I know if we are an "IB Magnet Family"? The proposed changes specifically impact students who attend BCE through the magnet program. You can confirm your status if:
- Lottery Enrollment: You applied for and received a seat at BCE through the CMS School Choice Lottery (rather than being assigned based on your home address).
- Bus Service: Your student currently uses a "Shuttle Stop" or "Consolidated Magnet Stop" for transportation rather than a standard neighborhood stop.
How to participate in a CMS Board Meeting: This video provides information on how to attend, watch, and sign up to speak at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education meeting.
